Fabric Trade Show: Exhibit at Fast Textile

Buyers arrive at the fabric section with an approved budget and a list of items to finalize before the season. A sewing workshop compares fabric texture, weight, and price from a dozen or so suppliers in a single afternoon, and places an inquiry with the supplier who immediately answered questions about minimum order quantities and delivery dates.

For weaving mills, importers, and wholesalers, this is the shortest route to a customer who doesn’t respond to cold emails. Three days at the booth yield as many conversations with decision-makers as a sales representative typically has in a quarter.

The buyer needs to touch the fabric and find the price, minimum order quantity, and availability within a few seconds. Keep fabric swatches within easy reach; label each item with a card listing the composition and weight; and clearly separate stock items from made-to-order items.

Prepare two price lists: one for purchasing stock items in smaller quantities and one for mass production with a minimum order quantity. These are two different sales conversations, and mixing them up at the booth wastes the salesperson’s time and confuses customers who have come with a specific question.

Buyer Profile

Who buys fabrics on Fast Textile?

At the fabric booths, you’ll talk to the people who actually sign the orders:

  • sewing shops and manufacturing facilities sourcing raw materials for specific orders,
  • apparel brands with in-house production looking for alternatives or a second source of supply,
  • fabric wholesalers expanding their inventory,
  • patternmakers and designers for whom the fabric’s drape and draping are key,
  • manufacturers of workwear and promotional apparel with specific functional requirements.

Most of them visit the trade show with a shopping list for the upcoming season. If you can answer questions about minimum order quantities, prices, and delivery dates without having to go back to the office, you’ll leave the trade show with a request for a quote—not just a business card.

Fabrics: Questions from Exhibitors

  • Does participating in a fabric trade show pay for itself with just one contract?
Exhibitors in this sector most often expect a return on investment from a single manufacturing client, since repeat orders come in every season. That’s why it’s worth measuring the impact of a trade show by the number of requests for quotes and the value of the first order, rather than by the number of business cards collected.
  • How many samples should I bring to the booth?
Just enough to provide to anyone who makes a serious inquiry. The sample, labeled with the item number and contact information, stays on the buyer’s desk after the trade show and comes back as an order. Also, prepare a digital version of the technical data sheet for same-day shipping.
  • How can you set minimum order quantities so as not to waste the sales representative's time?
For each item in the catalog, list the minimum order quantity, in-stock availability, and estimated production time for custom orders. Buyers will filter out items that are out of their price range on their own, and your sales representative will only speak with those who can actually make a purchase.
